    Huntingburg is on the move!

Over the past 12 months the City of Huntingburg has seen a rapid expansion of industrial, commercial and residential projects.

New construction is happening west and north of the City as new areas are opened up for occupancy.  Positive economic growth translates into families moving in to the area, bringing with them the need for housing and expanded city services.

Economic growth and investment aid the expanding tax base that benefits the entire community.

Several streamlined steps are undertaken when a developer approaches the city with a project concept.  Working with the Planning Director as coordinator the zoning is checked.  Often the developer will be pleased to find that prezoning has created a clear opportunity for most tracts of land.

A development plan and site plan must be submitted to the Planning Department.  The staff will then work closely with the developer to implement a plan that addresses drainage and buffering.  The idea is to keep the Development Plan practical and cost efficient in the spirit of a pro business climate.

Utility access is made easy by the City of Huntingburg having its own municipal utility.  Close cooperation between all city departments helps speed up the process for supplying infrastructure to a new site.

The key to orderly growth is advanced professional planning and a well-drafted Comprehensive Plan.  The plan along with its projected updates lays out a strategy to encourage "compact growth" of Industry in the northwest sector of the community.  A network of truck routes and rail also serves northwest sector.

Commercial growth is encouraged and is developing along the corridor crossroads of U.S. Highway 231 and State Highway 64.

Ambitious plans for the future include a new multiple access 4 lane bypass west of the City to aid trucking efficiency and safety.  The Huntingburg Airport expansion is looking forward to including daily commuter services.

Huntingburg is experiencing a large growth of new residential opportunities in all ranges of cost.  The City set a new record with over 80 new units being added in the year 2000.

Throughout the city excellent opportunities exist for infill development on open lots or adaptive reuse of buildings left vacant after construction, somewhere else within the community.

Conditions are favorable to diversify industry and also attract a strong corporate office component.  There are several attractive sites with high visibility for the location of corporate office buildings.  Huntingburg offers an exceptional location close to Interstate 64 affording efficient access to St. Louis, Louisville, Nashville, Cincinnati and Memphis markets.  Also worth noting is the first class Huntingburg Airport, perfect for corporate planes.

Positive long range planning and a business friendly economic climate for investment will brighten Huntingburg's economic future.
